November 22, 2021 – The Clean Fuels NY Coalition released the below statement following the decision from several states to withdrawal from the Transportation and Climate Initiative (TCI):
“In the last few days, several states have announced they will not move forward with the Transportation and Climate Initiative, a regional collaboration to improve transportation, develop the clean energy economy and reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector. This initiative was one of several policy tools to transition towards clean energy sources and reduce pollution.
“Now, with the absence of a regional funding approach, New York has an increased urgency to adopt statewide policies that will reach our climate goals, including the Clean Fuel Standard (CFS). A CFS, which has overwhelming support in the State Senate and Assembly, would make the fossil fuel industry pay for the State’s transition to a decarbonized and electrified transportation sector with little to no impacts at the pump for consumers, help achieve the goals of the CLCPA, reduce air pollution and improve public health. Our Coalition looks forward to working with Governor Hochul and elected leaders to move this important legislation forward and continue to put New York on the right path to reach our climate goals.”
